30.5 kW AIKO Solar and a 54 kWh Sigenergy Battery in the Mullumbimby Hinterland: Case Study
A 30.5 kW AIKO solar system, a 54 kWh Sigenergy battery in its own purpose-built shed and a Sigenergy Gateway for full home backup, for a rural property in the Mullumbimby hinterland.
Our own in-house team designed and installed the whole system: 61 panels across a pavilion and the home’s metal roofs, a 30 kW Sigenergy hybrid inverter, six battery modules and the Gateway that keeps the property running in a blackout.

The job
A hinterland property with an older solar system that was no longer doing the job, and a household that wanted to run the home from its own solar and ride through blackouts. We took the old panels off, prepared the roof, and designed one new system sized around the property’s real power use. The old 5 kW inverter was moved to a cabin on the property rather than thrown away.
The best sun was on an open pavilion, so 28 of the panels sit on tilt frames there, facing north. The rest are spread across the home’s metal roofs. The DC cabling from the pavilion runs underground in heavy-duty conduit.
What we installed
- Solar: 61 AIKO Neostar panels (500 W each), 30.5 kW in total, with 28 of them on north-facing tilt frames on the pavilion
- Inverter: a 30 kW three-phase Sigenergy hybrid inverter
- Battery: a Sigenergy SigenStor stack with about 54 kWh of storage (54.24 kWh in the design, six modules), in its own battery shed on a concrete base with a Colorbond structure
- Home battery backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with generator input, which gives full emergency backup and switches the property over automatically when the grid drops out. See blackout backup batteries
- Generator plug: a generator inlet fitted for future use, so a generator can power the property in a long outage
- Monitoring: consumption monitoring with app training

How it went
Before install day we did a face-to-face site visit to agree where the battery should go, check the switchboard and confirm which circuits stay on in a blackout. A battery this size needs a compliant spot, so it got its own shed: a concrete base, a Colorbond enclosure and a roof, with the restricted-access and battery safety signage fitted. Read more on where a home battery can be installed.
Circuits on the backup supply get Type A RCBO protection to meet the federal battery rebate rules, so there were no surprises on the day. The work was done by our own electricians with no subcontractors, followed by monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
