22.8 kW Jinko Solar, 40 kWh Sigenergy Battery and DC EV Charger in Huonbrook: Case Study
A 22.8 kW Jinko solar system on a purpose-built shed, a 40 kWh Sigenergy battery with a Gateway for home backup, and a 25 kW Sigenergy DC EV charger, for a Huonbrook property.
Our own in-house team designed and installed the whole system in April 2026: panels, hybrid inverter, battery, Gateway and the DC charger.

The job
A Huonbrook property with a purpose-built shed and a household that wanted to run the home and charge an electric car from its own solar. We designed it as one system: a long array on the shed roof, a big battery stack on a purpose-built wall, and a fast DC charger sharing the same Sigenergy system. The finish mattered on this one, so the array is laid out clean and symmetrical and the cabling is neat.
What we installed
- Solar: 48 Jinko Tiger Neo panels (475 W each), 22.8 kW in total, on the new shed
- Inverter: a 12 kW Sigenergy hybrid inverter
- Battery: a Sigenergy SigenStor stack with about 40 kWh of storage (40.3 kWh in the design), standing on a base supplied by the customer
- Home battery backup: a Sigenergy Gateway, which switches the home over automatically when the grid drops out
- EV charging: a 25 kW Sigenergy DC EV charger with a 7.5 metre cable, powered from the solar and battery. See our EV charger installation page
- Smart load switching: a Shelly smart load controller linked to the Sigenergy system for the EV charging
- Generator plug: a generator inlet wired into the system, so a generator can power the home in a long outage
- Monitoring: consumption monitoring with app training
How it went
Before install day we did a face-to-face site visit to agree the battery position, check the switchboard and confirm which circuits stay on in a blackout. Circuits on the backup supply get Type A RCBO protection to meet the federal battery rebate rules, so there were no surprises on the day. After install we tested charging from solar, discharging, the EV charger and a simulated blackout before handing over, followed by grid connection and a sign-off call.
How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a 15-minute call.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
