Ocean Shores was built from the late 1970s, and it shows in the housing: plenty of established brick and timber homes on the hills, many now on their second or third owner. The southern half rises over the hills with views, while the north and the beach villages of New Brighton and South Golden Beach sit on flat land around Marshalls Creek. Billinudgel is just over the highway.

Hills and flats are two different jobs

On the hills, roofs often face several ways and trees on the slope can shade parts of the day. We design around the real roof and the real shade, and confirm it on the site visit.

On the flats, the 2022 flood hit the Marshalls Creek catchment hard: Ocean Shores, Billinudgel, New Brighton and South Golden Beach. Where your home sits low, we place the battery and inverter as high as is practical and compliant, and talk it through with you first.

Older solar, new battery

Many Ocean Shores homes got solar years ago. Some of those systems are small or getting old, and most send their power back to the grid during the day. There are three ways it can go, and we work out which from your bills:

  • Your panels can cover the day and charge a battery for the night: battery only.
  • Your panels can’t quite do both: we design the extra solar needed.
  • Your old system is due for replacement: we design a new one around your real usage.

My solar is over ten years old. Should I add a battery or start again?

It depends on your panels, your inverter and your usage. We check your bills and your system and tell you honestly which makes sense.

We are in the low part of Ocean Shores. Is a battery safe from floods?

We look at your property's flood history on the site visit and place the battery and inverter as high as is practical, within the installation rules.

Trees shade part of my roof. Can I still get solar?

Often, yes. We check the shading and design the panel layout around it.

Can I get the NSW 0% loan?

Many homeowners can. The NSW Home Energy Saver program offers up to $15,000 at 0% through Brighte, up to 10 years. Eligibility criteria apply; subject to lender approval.
