Sigenergy home battery system, 16 kWh, against a brick wall beside the side path of an Alstonville home, installed by Sun Connect Solar

The job

A brick home in Alstonville, on the plateau between Lismore and Ballina, with a grey Colorbond roof and a long concrete path down the side of the house where the switchboard sits. The household wanted solar and a battery to carry the evening and the night, with the home kept running in a blackout. The side wall beside the switchboard suited the battery and Gateway, keeping the cable runs short and the garden clear.

What we installed

  • Solar: AIKO Neostar panels (470 W each) on the Colorbond roof
  • Inverter: a 10 kW Sigenergy single-phase hybrid inverter
  • Battery: 16 kWh of Sigenergy battery storage
  • Blackout backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with bypass switch
  • Consumption and production monitoring and app training

How it went

We met on site before install day to agree the battery position on the side wall, check the switchboard and RCBOs, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The battery went on a level base against the brick, with conduit run neatly up the wall to the Gateway beside the meter box, and the battery (ES) label and safety signage fitted. The Gateway carries its bypass switch and shutdown labels. On the roof, the panels went on in straight rows. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Is a 16 kWh battery enough for an Alstonville home?

It suits many households with average evening use. We size every battery from the household’s own power bills, and a Sigenergy battery is built from modules, so more can be added later. See battery sizing.

Can a battery go along the side of the house?

Often, yes. Here the battery sits against the brick side wall beside a concrete path, out of the way and easy to reach. Where a battery may go is set by the Australian battery standard and the manufacturer, and we confirm it on the site visit. See where a home battery can be installed.

What does the Sigenergy Gateway do?

It switches the home over to the battery and solar when the grid goes down, and back again when it returns. A typical install backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave circuits out. See blackout backup batteries.

Do you install home batteries across the Alstonville plateau?

Yes. We install in Alstonville, Wollongbar and the farms and acreage around them, with a face-to-face site visit before every install. See solar and batteries in Alstonville and Wollongbar.
