Sigenergy SigenStor battery with four battery modules, about 32 kWh, on a covered brick patio in Alstonville, installed by Sun Connect Solar

The job

An Alstonville home on the plateau, with a grey concrete tile roof and a covered brick patio beside the house. The first design put three battery modules on a 6 kW Sigenergy inverter. When it went in, a fourth module was added, so the household now has about 32 kWh to carry the evening, the night and any blackout. That is the point of a modular battery: the size can change without changing the rest of the system.

What we installed

  • Solar: 19 Jinko Tiger Neo panels (510 W each), 9.69 kW in total, on the tiled roof
  • Inverter: a 6 kW Sigenergy single-phase SigenStor energy controller
  • Battery: four Sigenergy battery modules, about 32 kWh of storage (32.24 kWh)
  • Blackout backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with a generator input
  • Monitoring and app training

How it went

We met on site before install day to agree the battery position on the patio, check the switchboard and RCBOs, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The four-module SigenStor stands on its feet against the brick wall, under the patio roof. The Gateway went in beside the switchboard with its bypass switch and labels. On the roof, the panels went on in straight rows on the tiles. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Can a Sigenergy battery be made bigger?

Yes. Sigenergy batteries are built from stackable modules of about 8 kWh. This home’s design started with three modules and four went in, about 32 kWh in all. Modules can also be added years later. See battery sizing.

Can a battery go on a covered patio?

Often, yes. Here the SigenStor stands on a covered patio against a brick wall, out of the rain and direct sun. Where a battery may go is set by the Australian battery standard and the manufacturer, and we confirm it on the site visit. See where a home battery can be installed.

Does solar work well on a concrete tile roof?

Yes. Panels go on tile roofs with tile hooks fixed to the rafters under the tiles, so the roof stays watertight. We check the tiles and the roof frame on the site visit.

What happens when the grid goes down?

The Sigenergy Gateway switches the home over to the battery and solar. A typical install backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave circuits out. See blackout backup batteries.
