All-black AIKO Neostar solar panels on a dark concrete tile roof in Wollongbar, part of a 6.825 kW install by Sun Connect Solar

The job

A Wollongbar home on the plateau with a dark concrete tile roof, a big lawn and tall trees, a three-phase supply and an old solar system that had done its time. The household wanted new, efficient panels in place of the old ones. The old system came off, and 15 all-black panels went on in one tidy block along the roof.

What we installed

  • Solar: 15 all-black AIKO Neostar panels (455 W each), 6.825 kW in total
  • Inverter: a 10 kW Sungrow three-phase inverter
  • Old system removed and disposed of responsibly
  • Consumption and production monitoring and app training

How it went

We met on site before install day to look at the old system, check the three-phase switchboard and plan the new layout, so there were no surprises on the day. The old gear came off, and the new panels went on in straight rows on tile hooks, clear of the whirlybird. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Solar in Wollongbar and Alstonville

Many homes on the plateau put solar on years ago, and replacing those early systems is a common job for us. Nearby, see 9.69 kW of Jinko solar and a 32 kWh Sigenergy battery in Alstonville and a 40 kWh Sigenergy battery in the Alstonville area.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new solar install from us now comes with 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Should I replace my old solar system?

Older systems often have small, tired panels and an inverter near the end of its life. We check the old system on the site visit and tell you honestly whether to keep, add to or replace it. See how long panels and inverters last.

What happens to the old panels?

On this job the old system was removed and disposed of responsibly as part of the work.

Why a three-phase inverter?

The home has a three-phase supply, so a three-phase inverter spreads the solar across all three phases.

Can a battery be added later?

Yes, a battery can be added to many solar systems later. We work out the best way from what is installed. See adding a battery to existing solar.
