6.65 kW of new Jinko solar, a GoodWe ESA all-in-one battery with three battery modules (about 25 kWh), and the home’s existing solar upgraded so it keeps working in a blackout, in Tyalgum in the Tweed Valley.
Our own in-house team designed and installed the system in September 2026.

The job
A rural home in Tyalgum, with a green Colorbond roof backing onto rainforest and an older solar system already on it. The household wanted a large battery with backup for when storms take the power out, plus more solar to keep it charged. The new panels went on beside the existing array, and the older system was upgraded to work with the new battery.
What we installed
- New solar: 14 Jinko Tiger Neo III panels (475 W each), 6.65 kW, alongside the existing panels
- Battery and inverter: a GoodWe ESA all-in-one with a 10 kW hybrid inverter and three battery modules, about 25 kWh of storage (24.96 kWh in the design)
- Existing solar: upgraded to hybrid operation, so it can keep generating during a blackout
- Solar hot water timer, so the hot water heats on solar during the day
- Monitoring and app training

How it went
We met on site before install day to agree the battery position in the shed, check the switchboard and RCBOs, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The GoodWe stands on the concrete floor against the shed wall, with the conduit run neatly up the wall and the safety signage fitted. On the roof, the new panels sit in straight rows beside the existing array. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Solar and batteries in the Tweed Valley
Valley homes often sit under hills and trees, a long way down the line from town. A battery with backup, and solar that keeps running in a blackout, is a big part of why valley households call us. Read about solar and batteries in Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley and our off-grid solar work.
How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
Questions we get asked
Is a big battery worth it in the Tweed Valley?
For homes that lose power in storms and floods, backup is often the main reason. This home now has about 25 kWh of storage and its existing solar can keep working in a blackout. See blackout backup batteries.
Can a battery go in a shed?
Yes, a shed or garage is one of the allowed places, as long as the clearances and the manufacturer’s rules are met. Here the GoodWe stands on the concrete against the shed wall. See where a home battery can be installed.
Do you travel out to Tyalgum and the valley?
Yes. We install across the Northern Rivers, including the Tweed Valley around Murwillumbah, Uki and Tyalgum, and we do a face-to-face site visit before every install.
Can I keep my old panels when I add new ones?
Often, yes. On this job the existing panels stayed on the roof and were upgraded to hybrid operation, and the new array went on beside them. See adding a battery to existing solar.
