Sungrow vs Sigenergy: how do the two home batteries compare?
Both are modular, lithium iron phosphate batteries with a good reputation, and we install both. The main difference is in how they are put together: Sungrow pairs stackable battery modules with a separate Sungrow hybrid inverter, while Sigenergy’s SigenStor stacks its inverter and modules as one system.

What each one is
- Sungrow: two battery ranges. SBR uses 3.2 kWh modules (6.4 to 25.6 kWh per stack); SBH uses 5.0 kWh modules (10 to 40 kWh per stack), with up to four stacks in parallel. Both are IP55 and pair with a Sungrow hybrid inverter, monitored in iSolarCloud. See SBR vs SBH.
- Sigenergy SigenStor: an energy-management and inverter unit with 5 kWh or 8 kWh battery modules, a gateway for backup, and the mySigen app. The battery pack can warm itself in cold weather.
The practical differences
- One system or a pair: SigenStor is designed as a single stack; Sungrow is a battery plus a separate hybrid inverter that must be a compatible model.
- Sizing steps: Sungrow’s smaller SBR modules give finer steps; Sigenergy’s larger modules give fewer, bigger steps.
- Apps: iSolarCloud for Sungrow, mySigen for Sigenergy. Both show power flow and battery level.
- Backup: both can back up the home, through the inverter and its wiring. Our typical install backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave out circuits.
- Warranty: a 10-year battery warranty on the batteries we install, subject to each maker’s conditions, and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our own installation work.
Sigenergy is our premium option and we lead with it, and Sungrow is one of the other brands we fit when it suits a home better, for example a house already running Sungrow equipment. Compare all five: how to choose a home battery.
Why locals choose us

Questions we get asked
Is Sungrow or Sigenergy better?
It depends on your home. We compare them on your usage, your existing solar and your backup needs, and tell you why we recommend one.
Can I add a Sungrow battery to my existing solar?
Often a Sungrow hybrid inverter is part of the design, so your current inverter may be replaced. We check what you have at the assessment and site visit.
Do both work in a blackout?
Both can, when set up for backup. The inverter, wiring and settings decide what stays on. We test the switch-over before we leave.
Which has an app?
Both: Sungrow’s iSolarCloud and Sigenergy’s mySigen. We have owner guides for both.
