River towns that know floods. Solar and batteries placed above the water, by local electricians.

Coraki sits where the Wilsons and Richmond rivers meet, and Woodburn is downstream on the Richmond. In 2022 both towns, along with Broadwater, saw the highest floods on record: the river peaked at 7.65 metres at Coraki and 7.17 metres at Woodburn, well above the old records. Homes have since been repaired, and some raised or rebuilt, a number through the NSW Resilient Homes Program. If you are putting solar and a battery on a home here, where the equipment goes matters more than almost anything else.

Battery and inverter above flood level

A battery or inverter that goes under water is finished, and it’s a safety risk. On the site visit we talk through where the water reached on your property in 2022 and earlier floods, and we place the battery, inverter and isolators as high as practical, within the installation rules. Batteries have strict placement rules around habitable rooms, exits, doors and windows, so the right spot takes planning.

On a raised home, the space underneath is often the level that floods. The battery may be better on an elevated wall, the verandah or a purpose-built platform above the flood line. We sort this out with you before install day.

If your system went under in 2022

Solar inverters, batteries and wiring that have been flooded must not be switched back on until a licensed electrician has checked them. If you’re still running a system that went under, we can inspect it and tell you honestly what can stay and what needs replacing.

Blackout backup in a river town

Storms can take the power out here for days. A typical install from us backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave circuits out. If floodwater ever threatens your home, follow SES advice and switch off as directed: the design keeps the battery high so it’s there for the outages that come with storms.

Rebates and finance

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs come off at point of sale, and we handle the paperwork. The battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027, set by your install date.

NSW Home Energy Saver program: 0% interest loan up to $15,000 for solar and batteries, through Brighte, up to 10 years. Rebates come off first. Eligibility criteria apply; subject to lender approval. See if you qualify →

Coraki and Woodburn FAQs

Where will you put my battery if my house flooded in 2022?

As high above your known flood level as practical, within the installation rules. We work out the spot with you on the site visit, using where the water reached on your property.

My house has been raised. Can the battery go underneath?

That space is often the level that floods, so we usually look higher: an elevated wall, the verandah or a raised platform. We confirm a compliant spot before install day.

My solar went under water in 2022. Is it safe to use?

Not until a licensed electrician has checked it. We can inspect the panels, inverter and wiring and tell you what can stay and what needs replacing.

Do you cover Broadwater and Rileys Hill?

Yes, along with Coraki, Woodburn and Evans Head, and north to Lismore and Ballina.

Can I get help paying for solar and a battery?

Rebates come off first. The NSW Home Energy Saver program offers a 0% interest loan up to $15,000 for solar and batteries, through Brighte, up to 10 years. Eligibility criteria apply; subject to lender approval.
