Is a Sigenergy battery worth it? An installer’s honest view
We are a Sigenergy-approved installer, so we are not neutral, and we say so. Sigenergy is the premium battery we install, and for many homes it is a very good fit. Whether it is worth it depends on your bills, your solar, whether you want an EV charger and backup, and whether a mid-tier option such as GoodWe would do the job.

What is good about it
- Modular all-in-one: the SigenStor combines the inverter and energy management with battery modules, so capacity is chosen by the number of modules.
- Backup: with a Gateway it supports whole-home or partial backup, and you can set a Backup Reserve in the mySigen app.
- Modes: self-consumption, time-based control, fully fed to grid and, where available, an AI mode that learns your usage and prices.
- EV integration: a Sigen AC charger and a 25 kW DC charger option. See charging an EV from solar and battery.
- Cold weather: the battery pack can warm itself before charging when it is cold.
- Indoor or outdoor: the manual says the equipment supports both, subject to local rules.
What to weigh up
- Cost: it is our premium option. If a mid-tier battery meets your needs, GoodWe may be the better value: are GoodWe batteries any good?.
- Gateway: backup uses a Gateway, which is extra equipment and wiring to place.
- Position: not where cars pass in a garage, on a suitable wall, with ventilation and clearances. See where a battery can go.
- Coast: Sigenergy says to install at least 500 metres from corrosion sources such as the seaside, so we check coastal sites individually.
- Connectivity: the maker recommends Ethernet or Wi-Fi for communication. See our Sigenergy Gateway, internet and outdoor FAQ.
Who it tends to suit
- Homes that want expandability, backup and an EV charger on one platform.
- People who want detailed monitoring and control.
- Not necessarily: a small household that mostly wants bill savings with a modest battery.
How to decide
Check any battery against the Australian Government’s list: Clean Energy Council approved, warranty terms, how long the maker has been in the industry and local support. Then let us size it from your bills. See is a home battery worth it?, Sigenergy batteries in the Northern Rivers, Sigenergy vs GoodWe vs Tesla and Powerwall 3 vs SigenStor.
