The job
An East Ballina home on a rise looking towards the river, with solar already on part of the roof. The household wanted a big battery for the evening and night, backup in a blackout and more panels to keep the battery charged. The new Jinko panels went on beside the existing system, and the Gateway tied it all together.
What we installed
- New solar: 14 Jinko Tiger Neo III panels (475 W each), 6.65 kW
- Battery and inverter: a Sigenergy SigenStor with a 10 kW single-phase hybrid inverter and three battery modules, about 24 kWh of storage (24.1 kWh in the design)
- Blackout backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with a generator input
- Existing solar: upgraded to hybrid operation through the Gateway, with its rooftop isolators converted to current standards
- Monitoring and app training

How it went
We met on site before install day to agree the battery position, check the switchboard and RCBOs, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The SigenStor stands against a brick wall with two protective bollards in front of it and the cabling in conduit. The new panels went on in straight rows. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
Questions we get asked
Why are there bollards in front of the battery?
Where a car could reach the battery, such as in a carport or garage, the battery is protected with steel bollards. We work this out on the site visit.
What is a rooftop isolator conversion?
Older solar systems often have DC isolator switches on the roof. They are no longer required on new installs, so on this job we converted the existing system’s rooftop isolators to current standards.
Can my existing solar work with a new Sigenergy battery?
On this job the Sigenergy Gateway upgraded the existing solar to hybrid operation, so it keeps generating in a blackout. See will my old inverter work with a battery.
Is East Ballina too close to the coast for a battery?
It depends on the exact distance and the brand. Battery makers set coastal rules, and we check the position against them at design time. Read solar batteries near the coast.
Thinking about a battery in Ballina?
We install across the Northern Rivers. See solar and batteries in Ballina and Lennox Head, or compare Sigenergy, GoodWe and Sungrow, Solax and Tesla.
