96.72 kWh Commercial Sigenergy Battery for a Murwillumbah Area Farm: Case Study

A 96.72 kWh Sigenergy battery system for a commercial farm in the Murwillumbah area: two battery stacks, two three-phase hybrid inverters and a Sigenergy Gateway, in a purpose-built battery shed next to the main switchboard.

Our own in-house electricians designed and installed the system in April 2026. It was the third stage of work on this farm: we had already installed solar on its sheds in 2022 and 2025.

Commercial Sigenergy battery storage beside the switchboard cabinet, a commercial solar and battery installation by Sun Connect Solar, Northern Rivers

The job

A working farm in the Tweed valley near Murwillumbah, with a three-phase supply and a good amount of solar already on its sheds. The next step was storage: a battery big enough to hold a large share of the farm’s own solar for later, with backup for the site when the grid drops out.

Two Sigenergy stacks this size need a proper home, so the design put them in their own battery shed right beside the main switchboard, with short cable runs and room to service everything.

What we installed

  • Battery: two Sigenergy SigenStor stacks of 48.36 kWh each (46.8 kWh usable each), 96.72 kWh in total
  • Inverters: two Sigenergy three-phase hybrid inverters (Sigen Hybrid 25.0 TP, 27.5 kW each on the job’s design), one on each stack
  • Backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with generator input, for backup of the site and automatic switching between grid and battery. See blackout backup batteries
  • Existing solar: two Sigenergy three-phase power sensors in a small purpose-built switchboard, so the Sigenergy system can see the farm’s existing solar inverters
  • Battery shed: a purpose-built shed beside the main switchboard to house both stacks
  • Monitoring: consumption monitoring with app training

How it went

Before install day we met on site to agree the battery position, check the main switchboard and plan how the new system would connect to the farm’s three-phase supply and existing solar. All the equipment was new 2026 stock, and the federal battery rebate was taken off at point of sale, with the paperwork handled by us.

The work was done by our own electricians, with no subcontractors, followed by the network connection approval, monitoring set-up and a sign-off with the owners. Read more about commercial battery storage and single-phase vs three-phase systems.

How we run a commercial battery job

1. Free business energy assessment from your power bills and, where available, the interval data from your meter.

2. Custom three-phase design around how and when the site uses power, with the federal battery rebate and solar STCs built in. See business solar and battery rebates in NSW.

3. On-site assessment: battery position, switchboard, cable runs and what needs backup. No surprises on the day.

4. Install by our own electricians, planned around your work. Then network approval, monitoring set-up and a sign-off.

Warranties

10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

For business systems we work with a specialist commercial finance broker, Solaris Finance.

Questions we get asked

Can a business get the federal battery rebate?

Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is open to businesses as well as homes, for batteries from 5 to 100 kWh. On this job the discount came off the price at point of sale and we did the paperwork. It steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, set by the install date. See business solar and battery rebates in NSW.

Why two inverters instead of one?

Each Sigenergy stack has its own three-phase hybrid inverter on top, so two stacks means two inverters sharing the work. That gives a bigger site more charging and discharging power, and it suits three-phase equipment.

Where does a battery this size go?

Somewhere compliant, protected from the weather and easy to service. Here it is a purpose-built battery shed right beside the main switchboard, which keeps the cable runs short. We work this out on the site visit. See where a battery can be installed.

Can you add a battery to solar you installed years ago?

Yes. This farm already had solar we had installed in two earlier stages. The new Sigenergy system has power sensors fitted so it can see what the existing solar inverters are producing.

What size commercial systems do you install?

Commercial solar up to 1 MW and three-phase battery systems for farms and businesses across the Northern Rivers, including Casino. The 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work applies to commercial jobs too.
