What Larry said
We got three quotes from local installers and ended up going with Sun Connect Solar. The clincher was meeting Dean, their head guy — face-to-face, no fuss. He laid everything out in plain English, and we walked away with a good feeling. That’s the beauty of going local.
We’re doing the installation in two stages. First up: 19 x 440-watt panels. That part’s done, went off without a hitch, and they’re already pulling in power like champs. Next up, we’re adding a hefty 24 kWh battery, which should take us close to being self-sufficient — and that feels like a big step in the right direction off coal and gas.
So far, everything has gone exactly as promised. Dean and his crew have been terrific, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to throw the switch.
If you’re thinking about solar, my advice? Go with someone local. Sit down with them, look them in the eye, and see if they feel like the kind of people you want dancing up on your roof. Worked for us!
And finally, a big thanks to the government for the generous subsidies. Without them, we might still be thinking about it instead of doing it. We’re looking forward to casting our net over those big beautiful free electrons and playing our small part in Australia’s energy future.
Cheers for now —Laz,

The job
Larry met us face to face before he chose, and the job was done in two stages: the new solar panels first, then the battery. The old system was decommissioned and disposed of properly as part of the work.
What we installed
- Solar: 19 Jinko Tiger Neo panels (440 W each), 8.36 kW in total, on a single-storey Colorbond roof
- Battery and inverter: a Sigenergy SigenStor with a 6 kW hybrid inverter and about 24 kWh of storage (24.18 kWh in the design)
- Home battery backup: a single-phase Sigenergy Gateway, which switches the home over when the grid drops out
- Smart load switching for a high-load circuit such as a pool pump or EV charger, plus consumption and production monitoring with app training
How it went
Before install day we did a face-to-face site visit to agree the battery position, check the switchboard and confirm which circuits stay on in a blackout, so there were no surprises on the day. The battery stands in the garage with the cabling run in conduit and the safety labelling fitted, and we finished with monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a 15-minute call.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
