All-black Jinko solar panels on a light grey corrugated roof in the Tweed Valley near Murwillumbah, part of a 6.6 kW solar and 16 kWh Sigenergy battery install by Sun Connect Solar

The job

A modern home in the Tweed Valley, east of Murwillumbah, with a light grey corrugated roof, a big garden and older panels already on part of the roof. The household wanted more solar and a battery for the evening. The new all-black panels went on another face of the roof, and the battery went beside the house on a paved base.

What we installed

  • Solar: 15 all-black Jinko Tiger Neo panels (440 W each), 6.6 kW in total
  • Inverter: a 5 kW Sigenergy single-phase SigenStor energy controller
  • Battery: two Sigenergy battery modules, about 16 kWh of storage
  • Consumption and production monitoring and app training

How it went

We met on site before install day to look at the older system, agree the battery position and check the switchboard and RCBOs. The SigenStor stands on its feet on pavers and gravel against the wall, with its safety signage fitted, and the switchboard carries the battery and solar labels. The new panels went on in straight rows. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Solar and batteries in the Tweed Valley

The valley around Murwillumbah mixes river-flat homes, newer estates and rural blocks, and many already have an older solar system. Building on what is there is often the best first step. Nearby, see AIKO solar and a hot water timer in Murwillumbah and a 25 kWh GoodWe battery in Tyalgum.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Can new panels go on a home that already has solar?

Yes. On this home the new all-black panels went on beside the older panels. We look at the old system on the site visit and design around it. See adding a battery to existing solar.

Why is the battery on pavers?

The battery stands on its feet on a paved, level base beside the house, as agreed on the site visit. Where a battery may go is set by the Australian battery standard and the manufacturer. See where a home battery can be installed.

Does the Tweed Valley flood risk change the design?

It can. On the lower Tweed we look at the site and the flood history, and keep the battery in the safest allowed position.

Can more battery be added later?

Yes. Sigenergy batteries are built from modules, two on this job, and more can be added later.
