13.2 kW AIKO Solar, Two Sungrow Inverters and a Battery in East Lismore: Case Study

Thirty AIKO panels (13.2 kW) split across two Sungrow 5 kW inverters, one a hybrid that runs a 9.6 kWh Sungrow SBR battery, the other solar-only, for a weatherboard home in East Lismore.

A big array, two inverters

This East Lismore home had room on its metal roof for a lot of solar: 30 all-black AIKO panels, 13.2 kW in total. Rather than one large inverter, the design split the array across two Sungrow 5 kW units. One is a hybrid (SH5.0RS) that also charges and runs the battery; the other is a solar-only inverter (SG5.0RS). It is a neat way to fit a large array to a home while keeping the battery side simple.

The battery

A Sungrow SBR battery with three 3.2 kWh modules, 9.6 kWh in all, stands on the gravel beside the house, with the hybrid inverter mounted on the wall above it and the conduits run neatly down the cladding. The SBR stack is modular, so modules can be added later.

• Inverters: a Sungrow SH5.0RS 5 kW hybrid inverter and a Sungrow SG5.0RS 5 kW solar inverter

East Lismore homes

East Lismore has many older weatherboard homes on raised floors, often with metal roofs that take panels well. We look at the roof frame and fixings on the site visit before anything is designed in detail. Nearby: 10 kW of Jinko solar in East Lismore and a Sigenergy battery in East Lismore.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Why two inverters on one house?

A larger array can be split across two inverters. Here one is a Sungrow hybrid that also runs the battery, and the other is a Sungrow solar-only inverter. Together they handle all 30 panels.

What is a Sungrow SBR battery?

A modular battery stack from Sungrow, made of 3.2 kWh modules. This one has three, 9.6 kWh in all, and more can usually be added. See the Sungrow SBR owner guide.

Can a battery sit outside?

Many can, if they are rated for it and placed out of direct sun and away from where water pools. We check the spot on the site visit. See where a home battery can be installed.

Do you still install Sungrow?
