13.2 kW Trina Solar and a Sungrow Battery at Federal: Case Study
Thirty Trina Vertex S+ panels (13.2 kW) on a green corrugated roof, a Sungrow SH10RS 10 kW hybrid inverter, a Sungrow SBR battery with four modules (12.8 kWh), and a Catch Control switch that heats the hot water from the panels, at Federal, the small village in the green hills between Bangalow and Lismore.
Our own in-house team installed the system in December 2024.

A job with the owner’s own equipment
This household had already bought their gear: Trina panels, a Sungrow hybrid inverter and battery, a hot water controller and the racking. Our job was to check the design worked, install it properly and commission it. The home is an older brick house in a rainforest garden, with a green corrugated roof, a skylight and plenty of palms around it.
What went in
- Solar: 30 Trina Vertex S+ panels (440 W each), 13.2 kW
- Inverter: a Sungrow SH10RS 10 kW single-phase hybrid inverter
- Battery: a Sungrow SBR battery with four modules, 12.8 kWh, on cement pavers
- Hot water: a Catch Control switch with contactor and override
- Energy meter and Wi-Fi set-up in the iSolarCloud app

Fitting it to the house
The inverter went high on the old brick wall with the conduits run level along the bricks, and the battery stack stands below it on a base of cement pavers laid for the job. On the roof, the panels run in long rows along two faces, clear of the skylight.

Sungrow batteries around Federal
Many of our 2024 battery jobs in these hills were Sungrow, and we still install it. See also a 16 kWh Sigenergy battery at Federal and 20.9 kW of Jinko solar and a Sigenergy battery at Federal.
How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
Questions we get asked
Will you install equipment I have bought myself?
On this job, yes: the owner supplied the panels, inverter, battery, hot water controller and racking, and we did the design check, installation and commissioning.
What does the Catch Control hot water switch do?
It sends spare solar to the electric hot water and has a manual override, so the tank heats from the panels on sunny days and can still be boosted when needed.
How big is a four-module Sungrow SBR battery?
Each SBR module is 3.2 kWh, so four make 12.8 kWh. More can usually be added up to the stack limit. See the Sungrow SBR owner guide.
Sungrow or Sigenergy?
We install both. Today we lead with Sigenergy (premium) and GoodWe (mid-tier). See Sungrow vs Sigenergy.
Thinking about solar and a battery?
We’re based near Mullumbimby and install across the Northern Rivers. See Bangalow and solar and batteries in Lismore, or compare Sigenergy, GoodWe and Sungrow, Solax and Tesla.
