A town-centre roof

This was a larger job: a building in the middle of Lismore with a big roof made up of several corrugated sections, parapet walls and skylights, surrounded by the town’s older shopfronts. The aim was to put as much of that roof to work as possible. The design used 62 panels set out in long rows on each section, all feeding one Sungrow 30 kW three-phase inverter.

Working on a big roof

Each roof section was set out on its own: rows kept clear of the skylights and parapets, fixings matched to the roof sheets, and the panel strings run back to the inverter inputs. Our own electricians did the whole job, as we do on every install. No subcontractors.

How a solar job like this runs

We start with a free energy assessment from one or two power bills, or a quick call on 0483 903 020. The system is sized from your real daytime use, and the solar STCs come off the price at point of sale, with the paperwork handled by us (how STCs work). Before install day we come out to look at the roof and the switchboard face to face, so there are no surprises. Our own electricians do the install, usually in a day, then we set up monitoring, look after the grid connection and finish with a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new solar install from us now comes with 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

Do you do larger and commercial solar?

What is a three-phase inverter?

Bigger buildings usually have three-phase power. A three-phase inverter feeds the solar evenly across all three phases. See single-phase vs three-phase solar.

Can a roof with several sections take this many panels?

Yes, if each section is planned on its own: fixings to suit the roof sheets, rows set out around skylights and walls, and the strings wired to the right inverter inputs.

Is there an export limit on large systems?

There can be. The network sets how much a site may send to the grid, and we apply for it as part of the job. See Essential Energy export limits.
