Groups of Jinko solar panels on several faces of a grey Colorbond hip roof in Brunswick Heads, part of a 17.575 kW install by Sun Connect Solar

The job

A Brunswick Heads home under tall palms and gums, with a grey Colorbond hip roof broken into lots of faces, and a three-phase supply. The household wanted a big solar system. Rather than one large block of panels, the design put 37 panels in small groups across the faces that get good sun, and ran two submains out to the garage.

What we installed

  • Solar: 37 Jinko Tiger Neo panels (475 W each), 17.575 kW in total
  • Inverters: a SolarEdge 5 kW three-phase inverter and a SolarEdge 5 kW single-phase inverter
  • Wiring: two submains to the garage
  • Consumption and production monitoring

How it went

We met on site before install day to work out the panel layout on each roof face, check the three-phase switchboard and plan the garage submains, so there were no surprises on the day. The panels went on in tidy groups, square to each roof face and clear of the ridges and the flue. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Solar in Brunswick Heads

Brunswick Heads sits where the Brunswick River meets the sea, with older beach houses and plenty of trees, so roof shape and shading matter as much as the size of the system. If a battery is next on the list, the coastal rules for batteries are stricter than for panels, and we check them at design time. Nearby, see a 32 kWh Sigenergy battery in Ocean Shores and 14.1 kW of AIKO solar in South Golden Beach.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new solar install from us now comes with 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Can solar work on a roof with lots of small faces?

Yes. On this hip roof the panels sit in groups on several faces, each placed to suit the sun and the roof shape. We plan the layout from the roof itself on the site visit. See how big a solar system do I need.

Why two inverters?

This is a three-phase home, and the design used a three-phase SolarEdge inverter and a single-phase SolarEdge inverter to suit the roof layout and the supply. The right mix is worked out for each home.

Is it too close to the beach for solar?

Panel makers set rules for salt air, measured from the shoreline, and we check them against the address at design time. Batteries have their own, stricter rules. Read solar batteries near the coast.

Can a battery be added later?

Many solar systems can take a battery later. We look at the inverters and the switchboard first and tell you honestly what is involved. See adding a battery to existing solar.

Thinking about solar and a battery?

We’re based near Mullumbimby and install across the Northern Rivers. See solar and batteries in Brunswick Heads and Ocean Shores, or compare Sigenergy, GoodWe and Sungrow, Solax and Tesla.
