The job
A Tintenbar home on the hills between Ballina and Bangalow, with a corrugated roof and long views over the hinterland. The household wanted a very large battery for the evening, night and long outages, with solar to keep it charged. The SigenStor went in the garage, against the wall, and the panels went on the roof in long rows.
What we installed
- Solar: 20 black Jinko Tiger Neo panels (440 W each), 8.8 kW in total
- Battery and inverter: a Sigenergy SigenStor with a 10 kW single-phase hybrid inverter and six battery modules, about 48 kWh of storage (48.36 kWh in the design, 46.8 kWh usable)
- Backup: a single-phase Sigenergy Gateway for on and off-grid operation, with a generator input
- Consumption and production monitoring, app training and a walk-through of picking a retailer and tariff from the home’s own meter data

How it went
We met on site before install day to agree the battery position in the garage, check the switchboard and RCBOs, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The six-module stack stands on the garage floor against the wall. The panels went on in straight rows on the roof, clear of the edges. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
Questions we get asked
Why such a big battery with a smaller solar system?
Battery size and solar size are set separately, from how the household uses power and what it wants from backup. A large battery suits long outages and high night-time use. See battery sizing.
Can a battery go in a garage?
Yes, a garage is one of the allowed places, as long as the clearances and the manufacturer’s rules are met. Here the SigenStor stands against the garage wall. See where a home battery can be installed.
What does on and off-grid with a generator input mean?
The Sigenergy Gateway can run the home from the battery and solar when the grid is down, then switch back when it returns. The generator input lets a generator be connected if the household ever wants one for very long outages.
Can more solar be added later?
Often, yes, if the roof and inverter allow. We check this at design time. See how big a solar system do I need.
