The job
A Bangalow home with a corrugated roof and a leafy garden. The household wanted solar and a battery in one go, sized to carry the evening and night, with the power staying on when the grid drops out. The design put two long rows of panels along the roof and a three-module Sigenergy battery on the ground floor, protected by a bollard.
What we installed
- Solar: 22 AIKO Neostar panels (475 W each), 10.45 kW in total
- Battery and inverter: a Sigenergy SigenStor with a 10 kW single-phase hybrid inverter and three battery modules, about 24 kWh of storage (24.18 kWh in the design)
- Blackout backup: a Sigenergy Gateway with a generator input
- Safety upgrades: new Type-A RCBOs on every circuit on battery backup, a smoke alarm and a steel bollard at the battery
- Smart load control: a Shelly controller that works with the Sigenergy app to run a big appliance on surplus solar
- Monitoring and app training

How it went
We met on site before install day to agree the battery position, check the switchboard and plan the RCBO upgrades, and confirm what stays on in a blackout. The SigenStor stands on the floor against a dark wall with its safety signage fitted and a bollard beside it. On the roof, the panels went on in two straight rows along the corrugated sheeting. Then came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Solar and batteries in Bangalow
Bangalow and the hills around it have plenty of older timber homes, where the switchboard often needs work before a battery goes in. That is why the switchboard check is part of every site visit, and why the quote already includes what the safety standards call for. If you already have solar, we can also add a battery to your existing system.
How every job like this runs
1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.
2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.
3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.
4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.
Warranties
10-year battery, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.
The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.
Questions we get asked
Why do backed-up circuits need RCBOs?
On this job every circuit on battery backup got a new Type-A RCBO, a safety switch and circuit breaker in one. We check the switchboard on the site visit so any upgrade the current safety standards call for is agreed before install day, not found on the day.
Why is there a bollard beside the battery?
Where a car or trailer could reach the battery, it gets a steel bollard in front of it. We work out the position and protection on the site visit.
Is 24 kWh a lot of battery?
It suits a household with solid evening and overnight use, sized from its own power bills. Sigenergy batteries are built from modules, three on this job, and more can be added later. See battery sizing.
What happens when the grid goes down?
The Sigenergy Gateway switches the home over to the battery and solar. A typical install backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave circuits out. See blackout backup batteries.
