Why the rebate grows more slowly on big batteries
The federal rebate counts the first 14 kWh of usable capacity in full, the next 14 kWh at 60% and the part from 28 to 50 kWh at 15%. It also steps down for installs from 1 January 2027. See the battery rebate step-down and work out your own figure with the battery rebate calculator.

How much does a 10 kWh battery cost?
We build GoodWe and Sigenergy batteries in steps of about 8 kWh, so the nearest sizes are about 8 kWh and 16 kWh. Added to existing solar, a GoodWe ESA starts from $7,200 after estimated rebates for 8.3 kWh ($9,400 before) and $8,500 for 16.6 kWh ($12,500 before). A Sigenergy SigenStor starts from $9,000 for 8 kWh ($11,100 before).
How much is a 20 kWh battery?
20 kWh sits between our 16 and 25 kWh sizes. Added to existing solar, GoodWe starts from $8,500 for 16.6 kWh and $10,500 for 25 kWh after estimated rebates; Sigenergy starts from $10,700 for 16 kWh and $14,000 for 24 kWh.
How much is a 16 kWh home battery?
Added to existing solar, a 16.6 kWh GoodWe ESA starts from $8,500 after estimated rebates ($12,500 before rebates), and a 16 kWh Sigenergy SigenStor with full-home backup from $10,700 ($14,600 before).
Is a bigger battery worth it?
Only if your power use needs it. We size the battery from your bills so it covers your evening and overnight use. A battery bigger than that adds cost, and the federal rebate pays less for each kWh above 14 kWh and much less above 28 kWh. Both GoodWe and Sigenergy let you add modules later.
How much is a battery with new solar?
With 6.6 kW of new solar, a 16 kWh GoodWe battery starts from $12,500 after estimated rebates and a 16 kWh Sigenergy battery from $14,500. See our solar and battery packages.
Can I pay for a battery with the NSW 0% loan?
Yes, if you are eligible. The NSW Home Energy Saver program offers a 0% interest loan of up to $15,000 for solar and batteries through Brighte, over up to 10 years, with the rebates taken off first. There is no deposit with the loan; paying with your own money the deposit is 10%. Loans by Brighte. Eligibility and lender approval apply.
