What happens on install day for solar and a battery, and how long does it take?

Most of our installs take about one day, with our own electricians on site, and the grid connection usually follows 1 to 3 weeks later. Because we visit your home first, there are no surprises on the day. Larger systems can take longer: the Australian Government says installs can take 1 to 3 days depending on size and complexity.

Solar panel installation on a tin roof in the Northern Rivers NSW by Sun Connect Solar

Before install day

  • Free energy assessment from 1 or 2 power bills.
  • Design and proposal, signed when you are happy.
  • A face-to-face site visit: battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, access and anything else that could cause a surprise.
  • We handle the grid application and the rebate paperwork.

On the day

  • Our electricians arrive, run through the plan with you and agree the inverter and battery positions.
  • Rails and panels go on the roof, with safety rails where needed.
  • The inverter and battery are mounted, cabled to the switchboard and protected (a bollard where needed).
  • We test and commission the system, set up your monitoring app and show you how to use it.
  • You get the paperwork, including the warranties and shut-down procedure.

If it rains non-stop, the roof work can be delayed for safety. The government notes you should not be charged extra for a rain delay.

After the install

Your system is usually switched on after the grid connection is approved, which typically takes 1 to 3 weeks. We run a sign-off call once you are connected. See our full process.

Do I need to be home?

It helps for the first and last parts of the day. We need access to your switchboard and any roof cavity.
