How do I update the app, and does my battery update itself?

Short answer. You update the app yourself from the app store, or in mySigen under Setting, About, Version Update. Battery and inverter firmware is not an owner job: Sigenergy gives owners no steps for it, and GoodWe’s update steps are installer-level. Keep the system online and tell us if you see an update prompt.

Keeping the system connected matters. Sigenergy notes that major firmware upgrades can fail if the equipment has been offline for a long time, and offline systems cannot receive anything.

Safety first. Do not switch the unit off during an update. Never open a switchboard, remove a cover from your battery or inverter, or touch any wiring. Anything beyond the app, a light you can read from a safe distance, or your own router is a job for a licensed electrician. If you see smoke, smell burning, hear arcing or see water on or near the unit: keep everyone away, switch off at your main switch only if it is safe to do so, and call 000 if there is any fire or smoke.

Updating the app

  1. mySigen: open the app, go to Setting, then About, then Version Update, and follow the prompts. You can also update it from Google Play or the App Store.
  2. SEMS+: update from Google Play or the App Store like any other app. If the app asks you to update, do that first.
  3. Log in again if the app asks. If you cannot log in after an update, tell us.

Updating the battery and inverter

  • Sigenergy: the owner manual gives no steps for firmware updates. We do not know whether yours updates automatically, so we do not claim it does. Keeping it online is what helps.
  • GoodWe: the app may show an update prompt on the home page. GoodWe’s manual describes update steps for its installer app, and in SEMS+ device upgrades are for installer accounts. A forced update pushes itself and shows prompts. If you see a prompt, tell us.
  • GoodWe says USB updates are for its after-sales team only.

Please do not start an update during a storm or a blackout, or if the system shows an alarm.

Quick questions

Do I need to do anything for firmware?

No. Keep the system online and let us know if you see a prompt. We will look after it.

Will an update change my settings?

It should not, but if something looks different afterwards, send us a screenshot.

Does my battery update automatically?

We cannot say for certain for every system. Sigenergy’s owner manual gives no owner steps, so we do not tell customers to expect it.

The app says my version is old. Does it matter?

It can stop new features working. Update the app from the app store.
