What do the lights on my GoodWe ESA mean?
Short answer. There are three sets of lights: the inverter’s breathing light, the button light on the battery, and the small Wi-Fi stick light. Blue-purple breathing and steady green are normal, steady Wi-Fi stick light means connected, and red means a fault or alarm: tell us.

Safety first. Read the lights from a safe distance and never press the buttons. Never open a switchboard, remove a cover from your battery or inverter, or touch any wiring. Anything beyond the app, a light you can read from a safe distance, or your own router is a job for a licensed electrician. If you see smoke, smell burning, hear arcing or see water on or near the unit: keep everyone away, switch off at your main switch only if it is safe to do so, and call 000 if there is any fire or smoke.
Inverter breathing light
- Blue-purple breathing for about three minutes then going off: operating normally, grid-tied or off-grid. (The app can set it to stay on or off.)
- Blue-purple steady (when the app is set to always on): the inverter is powered on and in standby.
- Green running light: the system is upgrading.
- Red flashing: a system fault. Tell us.
- Off: the inverter is powered off or the lights are set to off in the app.
The inverter also has small indicators for grid and backup port status, battery level in 25% steps (steady = charging, flashing = discharging), overload and fault.
Battery button light
- Green steady: running normally. Green blinking once a second: ready or standby.
- Green blinking three times a second: communication lost with the inverter.
- Red blinking every two seconds: system alarm. Red steady: system fault. Tell us either way.
Wi-Fi stick light
- Steady on: Wi-Fi or LAN working normally.
- 1 blink: Bluetooth on, waiting for the app. 2 blinks: not connected to your router. 4 blinks: connected to your router but not to GoodWe’s server. 6 blinks: identifying connected devices.
- Off: restarting or no power.
See our Wi-Fi reconnect guide for what to check when the stick light is blinking. Please do not press the stick’s button or the battery button: GoodWe warns that holding them can reset or power things down.

Quick questions
Is a blinking green battery light bad?
No. Green blinking once a second means ready or standby.
The inverter light went off after a few minutes. Is it broken?
No. Blue-purple breathing for three minutes then off is the normal operating pattern unless the app sets it to stay on.
What if I see red?
Take a photo and a screenshot of any alarm in SEMS+ and call us. Do not restart anything.
Why does the Wi-Fi stick blink twice?
Two blinks mean it cannot reach your router. Check the router and Wi-Fi name and password, then see our reconnect guide.
