How do I reconnect my Sigenergy battery to Wi-Fi?

Short answer. If your system also has a network cable or a 4G module, you can switch Wi-Fi in the mySigen app under Setting, then Connectivity. If Wi-Fi is its only connection, the app will not let you change it, and the official fix means using the unit’s own hotspot and switches: call us and we will sort it with you.

Your Sigenergy battery keeps working when it is offline, but it is best kept connected so you can see it in mySigen and so it can receive updates. A new router, a changed Wi-Fi password or a changed network name is the usual reason it drops off.

Safety first. The unit’s own AC and DC switches are not for owners to use. Never open a switchboard, remove a cover from your battery or inverter, or touch any wiring. Anything beyond the app, a light you can read from a safe distance, or your own router is a job for a licensed electrician. If you see smoke, smell burning, hear arcing or see water on or near the unit: keep everyone away, switch off at your main switch only if it is safe to do so, and call 000 if there is any fire or smoke.

Check these first

  • Is your home internet working on other devices, and is the router on?
  • Is the Wi-Fi network 2.4 GHz and password-protected? Sigenergy says the system connects on 2.4 GHz and that open (non-encrypted) Wi-Fi may fail.
  • Did you just change your router, network name or password? That is the most common cause.
  • Does your system also have a network (Ethernet) cable or a 4G module? That decides which route below applies.

If your system has a network cable or 4G as well

  1. Open the mySigen app on your phone and log in.
  2. Tap Setting, then Connectivity.
  3. You will see the status of Ethernet, WLAN (Wi-Fi) and Cellular (4G).
  4. Tap WLAN, choose your 2.4 GHz network and enter its password.
  5. Wait until WLAN shows Connected.

Menu names can differ between versions of the app. If you cannot see Connectivity, or the options look different, stop there and call us.

If Wi-Fi is the only connection

From Sigenergy’s official guide: when Wi-Fi is the only way the system reaches the internet, mySigen will not let you switch it to a different router from the Connectivity screen. The official way back online uses the unit’s own Wi-Fi hotspot under Network Configure, and Sigenergy’s FAQ also involves switching the unit’s AC and DC switches off and on. We do not ask owners to touch those switches. Call us on 0483 903 020 and we will walk you through it, or reconnect it on a visit.

If it is on 4G

Sigenergy says the 4G module comes with 30 MB of data a month and can go offline if it runs out. mySigen shows your monthly 4G use under Setting, then Connectivity. Home Wi-Fi or a network cable is recommended where possible. If it keeps dropping out, let us know.

How long can it stay offline?

Sigenergy says the system keeps running offline, but if it is disconnected for more than 90 days in a row it goes into Safe Operation Mode. Tell us if it has been offline for more than a day or two.

Quick questions

Will my Sigenergy battery still work if it is offline?

Yes. Sigenergy says the system keeps running offline. You just cannot see it in the app, and it is best to get it back online quickly.

Does it need 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Sigenergy says to use a 2.4 GHz network with a password. A 5 GHz-only network will not work for it.

The app says offline but the light on the unit is green or blue. What now?

Sigenergy says to contact their service team in that case. For our customers, call us and we will deal with Sigenergy for you.

Can I restart the battery to fix the connection?

Not by using the unit’s switches. That is an electrician’s job. See our guide on shutting down and restarting your Sigenergy battery for the app method.
