Sigenergy SigenStor 24 kWh battery in a rendered alcove between two protective bollards in East Ballina, installed by Sun Connect Solar

The right spot for the battery

This East Ballina home had a rendered alcove: sheltered, level and out of the way. It suited the SigenStor well. The job included a fire compliance pack: two protective bollards in front of the battery and a smoke alarm. The conduits run up the alcove wall into the house.

System details

  • New solar: 14 Jinko Tiger Neo III panels (475 W each), 6.65 kW
  • Existing solar: upgraded through a Sigenergy Gateway to work in blackouts
  • Energy controller: a 10 kW Sigenergy single-phase SigenStor controller
  • Battery: Sigenergy battery modules, about 24 kWh
  • Fire compliance pack: smoke alarm and two protective bollards

On the roof

The 14 new panels went on in a neat block along the grey tile roof, looking out over the palms and neighbouring homes. Monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call followed the install.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

What is a fire compliance pack?

The extra safety items some battery positions need under the Australian standard: here a smoke alarm and protective bollards. See where a home battery can be installed.

Does an alcove suit a battery?

It can be a very good spot: sheltered from rain and sun, and out of the way. We check clearances, ventilation and access on the site visit.

Can my existing solar work in a blackout?

With a Sigenergy Gateway, yes. On this job the existing system was upgraded so it keeps producing in an outage. See does my solar work in a blackout.

What happens when the grid goes down?

The Sigenergy Gateway switches the home over to the battery and solar. A typical install backs up the whole home unless you ask us to leave circuits out. See blackout backup batteries.
