Sigenergy SigenStor 16 kWh battery with two modules standing on a raised concrete plinth in Ballina, installed by Sun Connect Solar

A compact battery, sized to the evening

This single-storey Ballina home sits on a quiet, leafy street of brick houses. Two Sigenergy battery modules on a 5 kW controller made a compact stack, and it stands on a raised concrete plinth for a level base off the ground.

Looks mattered on the roof

The grey concrete tile roof suited all-black panels, which have black frames and backing and blend in from the street. The panels went over the tiles in neat rows on the faces that suit the sun, with the safety labels fitted at the array.

Installed equipment

  • Solar: all-black Jinko Tiger Neo panels (440 W each)
  • Energy controller: a 5 kW Sigenergy single-phase SigenStor controller
  • Battery: two Sigenergy battery modules, 16 kWh of storage
  • Monitoring and app training

Before install day we came out for the site visit to agree the battery spot and base, look over the meter box and switchboard, and talk through what the battery would cover. After the install came monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Starting small in Ballina

Ballina’s wide streets and open tile roofs suit solar well, and a modest battery like this one can have modules added later. See also Jinko solar and a Sungrow battery in West Ballina and a 32 kWh Sigenergy battery in East Ballina.

How every job like this runs

1. Free energy assessment from one or two recent power bills, or a quick phone call on 0483 903 020.

2. Custom design sized from the household’s real usage, with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate and solar STCs taken off at point of sale. We handle the paperwork. See your rebates or try the battery rebate calculator.

3. Face-to-face site visit before install day: compliant battery position, switchboard and RCBO check, and agreement on what stays on in a blackout. No surprises on the day.

4. Install, usually one day, by our own electricians. No subcontractors. Then monitoring set-up, grid connection and a sign-off call.

Warranties

Every new install from us now comes with a 10-year battery warranty, 10-year inverter replacement, 25-year panel performance and our 25-year workmanship warranty on our installation work. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer warranties.

The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and again on 1 July 2027, based on install date. If a battery is on your list, it’s worth getting your assessment done early.

Questions we get asked

Is 16 kWh a big enough battery?

For many homes it covers the evening and much of the night. The right size comes from your own bills. See battery sizing and how long a battery runs a house in a blackout.

Why is the battery on a plinth?

This one stands on a raised concrete plinth, which gives it a level, solid base up off the ground. The base and position are agreed with the household on the site visit.

Why all-black panels?

All-black panels have black frames and backing, so they sit quietly on a dark roof. People choose them for looks. See AIKO vs Jinko panels.

Can more battery be added later?

Yes. The SigenStor is modular, so more modules can be stacked on later if the household’s use grows.
