I have a SolaX X1-VAST inverter and HS51 battery. How do I use the SolaXCloud app, and what do the lights mean?
Short answer. “VAST” is SolaX’s X1-VAST single-phase hybrid inverter (5, 6, 8 and 10 kW), paired here with the SolaX HS51 modular lithium battery. You monitor it in the SolaXCloud app. The inverter’s front panel has an operating light and an error light, and the app shows the battery level. Green and steady is fine; an error light means call us.
Safety first. Never open a switchboard, remove a cover from your battery or inverter, or touch any wiring. Anything beyond the app, a light you can read from a safe distance, or your own router is a job for a licensed electrician. If you see smoke, smell burning, hear arcing or see water on or near the unit: keep everyone away, switch off at your main switch only if it is safe to do so, and call 000 if there is any fire or smoke.
What the X1-VAST and HS51 are
The X1-VAST is a hybrid inverter: it takes your solar, charges the battery, runs the house and sends power back to the grid, with a backup (EPS) output for blackouts. SolaX lists four models, 5, 6, 8 and 10 kW, with up to four solar inputs and two battery ports. The HS51 battery is made of 5.1 kWh LFP modules, from 10.2 kWh up to 66.5 kWh in total, rated IP66 for indoor or outdoor use. SolaX says it switches to backup in under 10 milliseconds.
Reading the SolaXCloud app
- Download SolaXCloud from the App Store or Google Play, or sign in at the SolaXCloud website.
- Your plant is created when the system is commissioned, using the Wi-Fi dongle on the inverter. A Wi-Fi icon in the app shows it is connected to the cloud.
- The home screen shows the power flow between solar, battery, house and grid, today’s yield and the battery level (SOC).
- SolaX’s app has an online help section for each screen; app versions change, so if your screen looks different, ask us.
What the lights mean
The X1-VAST has a control panel with a screen and indicator lights. SolaX’s manual describes them like this:
- Operating light, on: the inverter is in a normal state.
- Operating light, blinking: the inverter is waiting or checking (for example, in the morning or after a grid dropout).
- Error light, on: the inverter is in a fault state. The screen shows the fault message and code.
- Battery light: solid means at least one battery port is connected and working normally; blinking means the battery is not connected or not connected normally. The screen also shows the battery percentage.
The wording on some firmware versions differs slightly, so photograph what you see and call us rather than guess.
Working modes and backup
SolaX’s manual lists six working modes when the grid is on:
- Self use: solar feeds the house first, then the battery, then the grid. The usual choice.
- Feed-in priority: solar goes to the house, then the grid, then the battery.
- Backup: keeps the battery at a higher level so the backup circuits can run in a blackout. SolaX suggests switching to Backup in advance if you know an outage is coming.
- Peak shaving and TOU (time of use): charge and discharge by time periods, for tariffs that vary through the day.
- Manual: for installer use.
In Backup mode the manual gives two reserve levels: a minimum charge while the grid is on (30% by default) and a minimum while off-grid (10% by default). Defaults depend on the firmware, so treat these as examples. In Self use, once the battery has fallen to its minimum level, the inverter will not necessarily provide backup in an outage, which is why Backup mode matters for storms. Firmware
SolaX’s manual describes inverter firmware updates from a USB drive, using files supplied by SolaX service, and warns that the wrong file or an interrupted update can stop the inverter working. SolaX also lists remote upgrade and diagnosis for the HS51 battery. Either way, this is installer work: call us. See does my battery update itself?
Warranty and documents
The batteries we install carry a 10-year battery warranty, with SolaX’s conditions in its warranty documents (under Support on SolaX’s website). SolaX’s manual also says opening the inverter enclosure without authorisation voids the warranty. Our 25-year workmanship warranty covers our installation work only. See where to find your warranty documents.
Common alarms and safe first steps
When the error light is on, the screen shows a fault message and code; SolaX’s manual lists the code table and says the installer should handle anything inside the unit.
- Note the fault message and code from the screen or app, and photograph the lights from a safe distance.
- Check whether power is on in the house and whether the app shows the plant online.
- If only the app is offline, check your router (SolaX’s dongle works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi).
- Do not open the inverter, press buttons on the dongle, or switch anything off and on.
- Call us with the code, photo and a screenshot.
If you ever need to isolate the system, use the shutdown procedure on the label on your inverter, in the order shown, and then call us.

Quick questions
What is a SolaX X1-VAST?
It is SolaX’s single-phase hybrid inverter for homes, sold in 5, 6, 8 and 10 kW sizes. In Australia it is paired with SolaX’s HS51 battery. The inverter handles your solar, the battery and the backup output.
Which app do I use for SolaX?
SolaXCloud, on iPhone and Android, or the SolaXCloud website. It connects through the Wi-Fi dongle on the inverter.
Which working mode should I use?
Self use suits most homes: solar feeds the house first, then charges the battery, then exports. Backup mode keeps the battery fuller for blackouts. Tell us your priority and we will set it.
Does a SolaX battery run the house in a blackout?
The X1-VAST has an emergency power supply (EPS) output, and SolaX’s Australian manual describes whole-home backup. What is backed up depends on how we wired it and which settings are on, so ask us about yours.
Can I update the SolaX firmware myself?
Not in the app: SolaX’s manual describes a USB-drive update with files from SolaX service, which is installer work. Please call us.
